Neurodiagnostic Baby

My coworker Jordan is pregnant and she asked me to make her baby a sweater as her baby shower gift. She wanted a size 12m so the baby could wear it in each of her monthly photos, and you can see her slowly grow into it! This is the absolute ideal situation for me! We love a woman who knows exactly what she wants, and I love getting to knit teeny tiny clothes!

I used a Sandnes Garn Babyull Lanett superwash Merino wool in the 4244 dark pink and 3mm knitting needles for the Olive’s Wrap by Knitting for Olive. It’s knitted bottom up with picot edging, joined at the yoke. It was my first time doing a picot edge and I am soo proud of how it turned out!! I also decided to work both sleeves simultaneously, magic loops style, on a large set of circular interchangeable needles, and it made a huge difference in the symmetry. My gauge was slightly larger than what the pattern called for so it’s definitely closer to an 18m, but Jordan and her husband are both super tall so I’m expecting something of a mega-baby. For you normos: this project wasn’t very difficult but it was super cool to work up and I learned a lot! πŸ˜€

Tell me this isn’t just darling!

So, she hadn’t seen it yet, and I’d been itching to finally give it to her. I boxed it up with some tissue paper and a copy of The Little Prince, and smacked a big ‘ol bow on top. When I got to the shower, our friend Jess and her two kids were sitting at the table coloring, so I asked if this is where the cool girls sit, and plopped my happy ass at the kids’ table. Jordan had prepped these coloring pages to make an alphabet book, and of course Jess and I got ourselves tickled pink drawing neuro-words. Very proud of these, check it out:

I spent pretty much the whole party at the kids’ table, and this one kid who’s maybe ten years old, she picks up my picture and looks at me and says “You Madi?”, and I was like “Uhh… yeah?” and she goes “Why would draw this?” and I asked “You could tell it was mine just by looking at me?” and she said “Yeah. I can”. Can you believe the audacity?! This kid was so sassy with me the rest of the day, we didn’t even talk to each other she just kept giving me the craziest side eye. There were witnesses who can back this story up.

Oh, and Jordan loved the sweater! ❀
